E-Gnyte (real name – Austin Izunwa) was born and brought up in Yaoundé the capital city of Cameroon in 1985. He is from Imo State, Nigeria by descent and is the third son of his parents.
Austin attended a bilingual primary School in Yaoundé, Cameroon. After his G.C.E, he struggled to further his education due to lack of finance so he focused on his other passion (MUSIC) which played a big role in his life from a young age. While he was in school, he developed through several performances on different shows and inter-school music competitions. Twice the best RnB singer and three times the best dancer, he then progressed and did different collabos with some artistes in Cameroon. Unfortunately, the songs were not promoted well so had poor radio airplay.
In 2003, his family decided to relocate back to Nigeria. Life back in Nigeria was challenging but Austin did not loose focus. After a few collabos with some upcoming artistes which also did not enjoy massive airplay, he formed a group of three guys in Owerri named D’ HUMDINGERS. The different dynamics and agendas of the group members eventually led to its breakup.
Austin then decided to go solo and later travelled to Lagos were he did his first two singles. Struggling to promote his singles, an A & R from EKOBEATS RECORDS was given a copy of the CD by a producer. One month later, Austin received a call from one of the Managers at Ekobeats. He was invited for an interview a week later and based on positive impression he made, he was given a contract three weeks later. This marked the end of Austin’s struggles and was the inception of a new dawn in his musical career as E-GNYTE
